The Unmanifest Canvas

Maharishi Mahesh YogiMaharishi Mahesh Yogi on Art, Creativity, and Perception

Compiled by Dr. Lee Fergusson and Dr. Anna Bonshek

In this era when the functioning of the brain physiology increasingly informs our understanding of the creative process, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s teaching on the nature of the arts, creativity, and perception — compiled and presented in The Unmanifest Canvas — brings deep, unparalleled insights into these relatively uncharted realms of human experience.

Art, Maharishi states, is the graceful method of accomplishing anything, and the art of living any phase of life is the ability to master that phase using latent potentialities and correct techniques.

Maharishi explains how art has its source in the transcendent — the universal, unbounded basis of life and individual awareness. When the artist’s awareness is in tune with this fountain of infinite creativity, this field of bliss, art breathes the fullness of life and inspires people throughout eternity.

This fascinating book is an indispensable, enlightening resource for creative producers, artists, art educators and art lovers, today and for all future generations.

Reviews

“Maharishi’s insights into art are interesting, fascinating, straightforward, original and ground-breaking – facilitating original, new ways of perceiving the arts, and of creating art”. – Daniel Meyer-Dingkgrafe, Professor of Drama, University of Lincoln, UK.

“Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has spoken and written on art, creativity, and perception for over forty years and has a profound impact on arts as different as The Beach Boys and Agnes Martin. For the first time all of his teachings in this area have been brought together in a single volume. This invaluable book will redefine the way we think about art and creativity.” – Professor Sasha Grishin, AM FAHA, Australian National University.

The unmanifest Canvas is much needed for all contemporary and all future generations of artists to give them the ultimate direction – which means the best humanly possible, the most pure, most ideal, most simple, most natural, most healthy, sublime, uplifting, divine.” – Dr Eike Hartmann, Minister of Architecture, Global Country of world Peace.
