Single Spices

Single Spices & Herbs

Although our food supplements usually contain a number of different ingredients, formulated to work together synergistically, Maharishi AyurVeda also has a range of single spices/herbs.

In itself, each spice or herb contains a pharmacopeia of biochemicals and bioflavonoids that can work in a synergetic way to bring about balance in the human physiology.

This is why Ayurveda uses the whole plant and does not believe in extracting the active ingredient when formulating its remedies. That would effectively be isolating just one aspect of herbal intelligence from the much larger holistic intelligence of the whole plant.

The holistic intelligent of the whole plant, when used therapeutically, can often prevent the side effects usually experienced when just its active ingredient is used.

With a bitter note for the strengthening of Agni

Fenugreek seeds have a slightly bitter taste and strengthen according to Ayurvedic Agni (digestive fire) without encouraging Pitta (fire/water element). The bitter taste can be easily mitigated by roasted in ghee.

Fenugreek Seeds for a Special Flavour

Fenugreek seeds enrich each vegetable dish. Especially with curries of potato and cauliflower dishes. The seeds make for a unique taste. Fenugreek is excellent for pacifying Kapha, and in smaller quantities for Vata, but it increases Pitta. It is a warming spice, and contributes the bitter, pungent and sweet tastes. In Ayurveda it is used to enhance digestion and prevent stomach disorders. It is also good for the skin and hair.
