Petitgrain Mandarin Essential Oil (Oshadhi) 5ml

Petitgrain Mandarin (Citrus reticulata)Petitgrain Mandarin Organic

Petitgrain Mandarin could become your 'go-to' oil for insomnia

It contains a specific ester which is rarely found and which has a powerful sedative effect. In such cases create a blend of petitgrain mandarin with a couple of drops of spikenard and some lavender and massage the lower back and abdomen with it. And diffuse the oil in the room too. This wonderful oil calms irritation (both of the emotions and of the skin) and helps against anxiety.

This is a pure therapeutic-quality certified organic aromatherapy essential oil from Egypt and is obtained from the leaves.

Petitgrain Mandarin Essential Oil

Petitgrain MandarinPetitgrain oil comes from the bitter orange tree, Citrus aurantium. Originally from Southern China, the bitter orange tree was brought to Paraguay in the 19th century and now flourishes easily in this part of the world. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree. The tree reaches about 3 meters high when cultivated, but can attain up to about 6 meters when growing in the wild. It has stout branches with a smooth brown trunk. When compared to the sweet orange tree, it has a more erect stature and tighter crown of leaves. It has flexible twigs with blunt thorns. The leaves are glossy and highly aromatic.

There are three essential oils derived from the bitter orange tree. Petitgrain is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the tree, Neroli essential oil is distilled from the blossoms, and Bitter Orange oil is produced by cold pressing the rinds of the fruits.

Since Petitgrain essential oil is distilled from the leaves and twigs, it is less floral and less citrusy than Neroli or Orange essential oil. It has a beautiful, fresh, woody, citrusy and a bit floral aroma.

Petitgrain blends well with Bergamot, Geranium, Lavender, Palmarosa, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Basil, Benzoin, Clary sage, Cypress, Lemon, Lime, Linaloe wood, Mandarin, Neroli, Orange Sweet, Rosemary, Ylang-ylang, Clove, Geranium, Jasmine, Cassia, Cinnamon, Citronella, Lemongrass, Lime, Sage, Spikenard, Tangerine, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Marjoram and Oakmoss essential oil.

Petitgrain Mandarin Uses

  • Petitgrain is a mood lifter like other citrus oils, plus it smells fantastic to most people.
  • Use it in your diffuser or personal inhaler when you are feeling down or want a fresh smell either in the air or for yourself.
  • To combat body odours: Use 2-3 drops of your oil or blend to a teaspoon of carrier oil or gel and rub over your body after taking a bath or a shower.
  • For Hair: Petitgrain is an excellent choice for many hair types and conditions. You can use it in blends for natural afro-textured hair, fragile or falling hair, oily hair, and it can also be used in hair oils.

Petitgrain is widely used in the perfume industry, giving body sprays, fragrances, lotions, and colognes a fresh, herbaceous note that is popular among both women and men.

Essential OilImportant Information

  • * Essential Oils are highly concentrated extracts of medicinal plants, very powerful in their effect and should be used with moderation and great care.

Essential oils used for massage - general instructions for dilution

  • If used other than for ambient diffusion, i.e. for massages, essential oils should always be diluted in a good quality vegetable carrier oil before applying to the skin (i.e. sweet almond, sesame, jojoba, olive oil, etc.).
  • The standard dilution for adults is 1–3% essential oil, or about 3–10 drops of essential oil in 15 ml (= 1 tablespoon) of vegetable oil (20 drops = 1ml).
  • For children, sensitive skin and during pregnancy the dilution should be 0,5%-1% (1-2 drops in 10 ml).
  • For a full bath use for adults 5–15 drops and 3–5 drops for a footbath. The essential oils should be diluted with some carrier oil, a little cream or honey to help them disperse in the water.

Specific oils requiring higher dilution

  • Essential oils of Clove bud, Cinnamon (leaf or bark), Oregano, Savory, Thyme (thymol and borneol) can irritate the skin, use only highly diluted (0.5%—1% dilution).
  • For sensitive skin care should also be taken with Aniseed, Fennel, Lemongrass, Melissa (Balm), Peppermint, Sage, Wintergreen, and sometimes also Basil, Ginger, Lemon and Bitter Orange (1 - 3 % dilution).

Some precautions

  • These oils (except the citrus oils) should also not be used for children under 2 years and during pregnancy.
  • If pregnant avoid in addition: Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Juniper, Sweet Marjoram, and Myrrh.
  • If applying photo-sensitizing essentials oils like Bergamot, Orange, Mandarin or Lemon to your skin (even in dilution) do not expose your skin to direct sun for several hours afterwards (to avoid pigment spots). The furocoumarin free Bergamot is ok.
  • In case of high blood pressure Hyssop, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme (thyme) are contra-indicated; a gentle massage with relaxing essential oils, however, is very beneficial.
  • In case of Epilepsy do not use the essential oils of sweet Fennel, Hyssop, Rosemary and Sage.
  • If you have a medical condition we recommend that you seek the advice of a Maharishi Ayurveda practitioner or aromatherapist.
