"Well there's coconut oil and then there's coconut oil! This stuff is the latter: a very superior, luxurious product. One of nature's best kept secrets. As the leaflet that comes with it states, it has many uses. My interest personally was not in using it to cook with, but to use as a skin moisturiser ..."

Coconut as a Carrier Oil

Coconut oilCoconut oil as a carrier oil can be used anytime you want to use essential oils. Even though Coconut oil gets solid at room temperature, it also melts really fast. It’s enough to take some oil between your fingers and it’ll become just as liquid as any other vegetable oil.

  1. Coconut oil as a massage oil - Coconut oil is a very good choice when you want a soft and silky skin. A massage with Coconut oil will also be relaxing. You can use it as it is or simply add a few drops of whatever essential oil you like or need for the best results.
  2. Coconut oil to effectively remove makeup - Instead of using commercial makeup removers, put a bit of Coconut oil on your eyes and face. Then massage it gently until the makeup starts to dissolve. Then you can wipe all the makeup off with a well-drained, warm cloth. It’s natural and it also protects your thin skin around the eyes, nourishing it.
  3. Coconut oil to moisturize the skin - Coconut oil gets absorbed by the skin really fast leaving a silky feeling behind. It is non-greasy and it works great for all skin types. But I suggest you put really tiny amounts of this oil on acne skin. Some acne skins react well to Coconut oil, while others don’t.
  4. Coconut oil to reduce wrinkles - How to use coconut oil as a carrier oil is quite simple when the carrier oil is as potent as Coconut oil. Used on its own, Coconut is a great anti-aging product. You can use it as it is around the eyes through circular, gentle massage movements.
  5. Coconut oil for healing and relaxation - Using Epsom salts in a warm bath is known to relieve tension and help the body relax. Combine equal parts of Epsom salts with Coconut oil and add it to your bath water. The oil will soothe your skin, no matter how dry it is.
  6. Coconut oil for damaged heels - Thanks to its high content of fatty acids, Coconut oil is a deep moisturizer. So every night after soaking up your feet in warm water, massage a good amount of oil onto the bottom of your feet and heels. Then put on some cotton socks. It’ll keep the warmth inside and help the Coconut oil seep into the cracked, dry heels.
  7. Coconut oil to protect your skin against UV rays - Coconut oil is great at protecting the skin from UV rays because it has a natural SPF. It is the perfect choice to use in the summer, after a shower and will lock in moisture and deeply moisturize the skin. Combine Coconut oil with Almond carrier oil for a higher UV protection. But keep in mind that no essential oil or carrier oil has enough SPF to protect from long exposures in the sun.
  8. Coconut oil for hydrated lips - Whether you’re looking for a natural lip balm or a better treatment for dry, chapped lips you can use Coconut oil. It is natural and safe to consume, unlike the commercial lip balms. You can melt Coconut oil and add a drop or two of Lavender essential oil, and then pour it in an old lip balm recipient. Now your lips will always look kissable and nourished!
  9. Coconut oil for gum health - Your gums and teeth are as important as your skin. How to use Coconut oil as a carrier oil for healthy gums, white teeth and fresh breath requires only a few drops of Peppermint essential oil. You can also add a bit of baking soda (if you can stand it). Wash your teeth with this mixture daily. Coconut oil helps decrease plaque formation and plaque induced gingivitis.
  10. Coconut oil swishing - Like I said above, Coconut oil is a very good antimicrobial so you can use it to swish it in your mouth. Do it as often as you can after washing your teeth. A teaspoon of Coconut oil should be enough. Try to swish it for at least 5 minutes. Experts suggest 10 – 20 minutes, but we all know that is too much. DON’T swallow the oil, because it contains toxins, and don’t spit it in the sink either. Coconut oil becomes solid really fast and you risk clogging the pipes.
  11. Coconut-illustrationCoconut oil to treat wounds, rashes and burns - Coconut oil can speed up the healing process of open wounds, rashes and burns. Mix Coconut carrier oil with Tea Tree and Lavender for a potent blend that will disinfect, treat and minimize the aspect of scars.
  12. Coconut oil as a deodorant - The properties of Coconut oil make it very good at keeping body odors away and disinfect the sweating areas. You can make a blend from Coconut oil and Lemongrass essential oil. Other essential oils that work well in this type of blend are Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Geranium. But Thyme and Lavender essential oils work great too.
  13. Coconut oil as aftershave and shaving cream at the same time - If you’re wondering how to use Coconut oil as a carrier oil in preventing further skin irritation from shaving, you can use it on its own. Or you can mix it with other soothing and calming essential oils, like Lavender or Chamomile. They will nourish your skin and protect it from irritations, itchiness and dryness. Just spread the Coconut oil on the skin and then shave. You won’t need to use anything else afterwards. Just make sure you wash the razor in a separate bowl of warm water mixed with vinegar.
  14. Coconut oil as face cleansing lotion - Melted Coconut oil can be mixed with Aloe Vera gel and a few drops of Lavender or Tea Tree essential oils, or both. Use the mix as a gentle face cleansing lotion. You can also add pure honey to your face lotion.
  15. Coconut oil to fight fungi - Athlete’s foot or other skin fungi can be treated with a bit of Coconut oil. Massage the affected area and leave it overnight for better results. You can also add some Tea Tree essential oil.
  16. Coconut oil for cuticle care - It is always best to nourish your cuticles so you don’t have to cut them and risk infections. Massage your cuticles with enough Coconut oil and leave it on for 5 minutes. You can then start pushing back the cuticles. This way your nails and cuticles will be healthy and your manicure impeccable. I don’t even consider using something else for my cuticles.
  17. Coconut oil against dandruff - How to use Coconut oil as a carrier oil against dandruff can be pretty simple. You’ll need 2-3 drops of Tea Tree essential oil and a teaspoon of Coconut oil. Massage your scalp and the hair with it and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. You’ll have to rinse really, really well; 2 or 3 times at least for a brilliant hair and healthy scalp.
  18. Coconut oil against stretch marks - Prevent the appearance of stretch marks by massaging your belly and breasts during and after pregnancy. You can also use it to prevent further stretch marks that can occur after a sudden weight loss. Coconut oil can help fade away discoloration and dark marks. It can also hydrate and help the skin heal faster.
  19. Coconut oil as a body scrub - Using Coconut oil as a carrier oil for a body scrub requires only a teaspoon of coffee and 4 drops of Juniper or Grapefruit essential oils. Mix them with 2 teaspoons of Coconut oil and use twice a week. This body scrub will keep inward hairs from forming and developing dullness anywhere on the skin. It will also hydrate the skin profoundly.
  20. Coconut oil as home remedy against colds - How to use Coconut oil as a carrier oil against a cold? Just mix the oil with Peppermint, Spearmint or Tea Tree essential oils. Then rub the chest with the blend for easier breathing and increased circulation.

Quick Overview

Maharishi AyurVedaVirgin Coconut Oil - Organic

Not bleached - Not deodorised - Not refined - Not hydrogenated - No GMO ingredients

Apart from Coconut oil and ghee, most other oils oxidise when heated and are not ideal for cooking. Cooking with coconut oil adds a delicious flavour to meals.

The traditional diet of South Pacific Islanders is high in coconut and they are famous for excellent cardiovascular health, with no clogged arteries. For those with a hot, Pitta constitution, it makes a good massage oil. Applied to the head it prevents dandruff, nourishes damaged hair, is a good conditioner and aids sound sleep. When massaged onto body and face, coconut oil delays wrinkles and sagging skin. It helps with many other skin conditions.
