When do you exercise? Do you fit it in after work in the early evening? Do you get up early and do it in the morning? Or are you one of those people who sneak in a game of tennis at lunchtime? And do you exercise gently, vigorously, or however you can?
You would think that since Pitta dosha is associated with the fire element, a person with high Pitta would not experience any problem burning up the carbohydrates and sugars in their diet. Yet if a Pitta predominant individual fails to take care of their digestion, this can result in specific related digestive problems.
These days the emphasis in nutrition has been placed on protein and whether we are getting enough. The truth is that individuals are more likely to suffer from excess of it than the converse... ...So now I will get to the real issue, which seems to have languished somewhat since the food industry has focused on protein. In truth, we need more sleep than we think we need. All the research is pointing to a minimum of eight hours sleep that people actually need for the work that the brain needs to do overnight to be accomplished. Less sleep leaves us less capable, even if we don’t know it. Even an hour’s lack of sleep [each night] over a 10-day period leaves us as incompetent and incapable cognitively, as if we had missed a whole night’s sleep for one night. The only difference is we don’t recognise it. We don’t know it.

I’ve recently been helping an Australian friend in her quest to find a decent café latte up here in the North West of England and it’s not been easy. While Sydney seems to be chock full of expert Baristas who can serve up the perfect café lattes at the drop of a hat, many of our British versions don’t seem to quite hit the mark.My friend’s obsession with [...]

It often seems that the more modern science learns about food, digestion and how we are affected by natural cycles, the more it confirms the understanding of the ancient science of Ayurveda. The following article, written by Dr Allana Polo and published in GreenMedInfo, highlights a recent study, which suggests that eating late may have a detrimental effect on our health. Could late night snacks [...]
I was recently asked to create the above diagram to promote Moringa for Maharishi AyurVeda Products and have to admit that I had never previously heard of this herb. I did a Google search and was amazed, not only by the huge number and range of benefits it is supposed to have – from increasing mental clarity, to normalising blood pressure, to weight management, to improving libido – but also [...]

As we grow older, it can be extremely challenging to lose fat just through diet and exercise. To really fight that stubborn fat, the ancient medical system of India, known as Ayurveda, uses age-old techniques that target the exercise-resistant fat by igniting your digestive fire. This is the biggest difference between Ayurvedic weight loss and techniques and more conventional Western methods – Ayurveda focuses on why your fat cells [...]
The next fat fighter is something I call the Triphala Treat. Triphala is an ancient ayurvedic herb that is composed of three dried Indian superfruits that work synergistically together: Amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki. Amalaki works as a natural antioxidant and removes excess inflammation from the body. It also helps to increase lean body mass and maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Haritaki supports the body’s natural cleansing process by gently removing toxins [...]
Ayurvedic Fat Fighter #4 Add curry powder to each meal. Ayurvedic medicine recognises six tastes – sweet, salty, sour, bitter, astringent and pungent. In order to feel satiated at a meal and eat less, you have to have all six tastes present in your food. These six tastes also help to improve your digestion and melt fat in your body. The average American diet usually only has three of these [...]
