Niaouli Organic (Oshadhi) 10ml

Melaleuca qui. viridifloraNiaouli Organic

Niaouli is part of the Melaleuca family which includes Tea Tree, and it has a powerful camphorous aroma. Niaouli is used in skin care preparations and is strongly antiseptic. It is a useful clearing oil that can be used in inhalations.

This is a certified organic pure therapeutic-quality aromatherapy essential oil from Madagascar and is obtained from the leaves.

Chiefly a disinfectant and astringent, niaouli can help to fight a range of infections. Stimulating the body and mind, it increases concentration, clear the head, and lifts the spirits. Think of niaouli as a gentler version of tea tree - suitable even for sensitive skin.

What is it good for

    • Heal wounds - Niaouli's disinfectant properties make it valuable for cleaning wounds, cuts and applying to ulcers. Use it to help calm acne and balance oily skin.
    • Reduces the appearance of scars - Niaouli encourages tissue regeneration, which in turn helps to minimize the appearance of scars, including the marks left by acne, pimples or chickenpox.
    • Fights cold and flu symptoms - A decongestant and expectorant, the oil will help to break up congestion in the lungs, bronchi, and nasal passages. Its antiviral and immune-boosting properties make it an important oil in the treatment of colds and flu.
    • Aids detox - Niaouli stimulates the release of digestive juices as well as the circulation of blood and lymph, aiding the absorption of nutrients and encouraging the healthy excretion of waste and toxins.
    • Acts as a pain reliever - An effective analgesic, niaouli can provide localised pain relief by numbing sensitive areas, It's useful for headaches, migraines, muscle and joint pain, and pain due to sprains.
    • Aids focus - The sharp aroma or Niaouli essential oil supports the mind to focus. This quality makes it a useful aid to meditation and helpful for concentration.

Best Uses

  • As a bath oil - If you feel as though you might be coming down with a cold virus, add a few drops to a bath oil blend to help fight the infection.
  • As first aid - Dilute a few drops in a tumblerful of water and use as an antiseptic wash for cuts and other minor irritations.
  • As a massage oil - Add to a base oil and use for an all-over body massage to strengthen the whole body, or use specifically, for example, to help fight infection, relieve pain, or stimulate a sluggish circulation.
  • In a steam inhalation - Add 2-3 drops to a steam inhalation (or add to a diffuser or vapouriser) and inhale for several minutes to help you fight cold and flu symptoms, bronchitis, whooping cough, sinusitis, catarrh, and other respiratory conditions.
  • Sage usage - non-toxic and non-irritant.

Blends

Blends well with Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange, Tea Tree, Bergamot, Lemon, and Lavender oils.

Essential OilImportant Information

  • * Essential Oils are highly concentrated extracts of medicinal plants, very powerful in their effect and should be used with moderation and great care.

Essential oils used for massage - general instructions for dilution

  • If used other than for ambient diffusion, i.e. for massages, essential oils should always be diluted in a good quality vegetable carrier oil before applying to the skin (i.e. sweet almond, sesame, jojoba, olive oil, etc.).
  • The standard dilution for adults is 1–3% essential oil, or about 3–10 drops of essential oil in 15 ml (= 1 tablespoon) of vegetable oil (20 drops = 1ml).
  • For children, sensitive skin and during pregnancy the dilution should be 0,5%-1% (1-2 drops in 10 ml).
  • For a full bath use for adults 5–15 drops and 3–5 drops for a footbath. The essential oils should be diluted with some carrier oil, a little cream or honey to help them disperse in the water.

Specific oils requiring higher dilution

  • Essential oils of Clove bud, Cinnamon (leaf or bark), Oregano, Savory, Thyme (thymol and borneol) can irritate the skin, use only highly diluted (0.5%—1% dilution).
  • For sensitive skin care should also be taken with Aniseed, Fennel, Lemongrass, Melissa (Balm), Peppermint, Sage, Wintergreen, and sometimes also Basil, Ginger, Lemon and Bitter Orange (1 - 3 % dilution).

Some precautions

  • These oils (except the citrus oils) should also not be used for children under 2 years and during pregnancy.
  • If pregnant avoid in addition: Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Juniper, Sweet Marjoram, and Myrrh.
  • If applying photo-sensitizing essentials oils like Bergamot, Orange, Mandarin or Lemon to your skin (even in dilution) do not expose your skin to direct sun for several hours afterwards (to avoid pigment spots). The furocoumarin free Bergamot is ok.
  • In case of high blood pressure Hyssop, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme (thyme) are contra-indicated; a gentle massage with relaxing essential oils, however, is very beneficial.
  • In case of Epilepsy do not use the essential oils of sweet Fennel, Hyssop, Rosemary and Sage.
  • If you have a medical condition we recommend that you seek the advice of a Maharishi Ayurveda practitioner or aromatherapist.
