Maharishi Ayurveda Products was established in 1986 to help implement Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s revival of Vedic civilisation in the field of health. It was established with the guidance of leading vaidyas. A key principle has been to act in accord with the Ayurvedic texts using the best of modern technology to enhance the production processes.
A Council of Maharishi Ayurveda Vaidyas was established to guide the development and manufacture of our products. A great deal of time has been spent on formulating products following the fundamental principles of the Ayurvedic texts using the best materials available today.
The Council of Maharishi Ayurveda Vaidyas has identified the best variety of each herb and the best source of each variety of herb and mineral and supplies are obtained almost exclusively from these areas. Wild harvesting is preferred where conservation issues do not dictate otherwise. Where conservation is a concern we are working to conserve and cultivate supplies. A large area of mountain bamboo forest has been reserved for sustainable production of vamsha lochana and three organic farms have being established in different climatic zones. More than 2000 harvesters have been trained to collect the herbs from wild sources. Checking of quality and identity is done at the central factory by botanical experts in a process that has been described by visiting authorities as ‘ideal’.
It has been the aim of Maharishi Ayurveda to make its manufacturing a first class operation.
Our factory was the first Ayurvedic manufacturing facility to be certified to ISO 9001. It has also got HACCP, WHO-GMP and ISO/IEC 17025 (laboratory) certification. Each section of the production process is supervised by vaidyas and we now employ more than 40 vaidyas in product development and production.
Quality is checked with in-house testing of microbiological load, heavy elements, and pesticides. Consistency of the collection and manufacturing process is check by Thin Layer Chromatography. The products imported into Europe are tested again and more than £450,000 has been spent on testing in Europe alone in the last 19 years.
