First thing each morning:

Brush your teeth - use Ayurdent toothpaste or toothpowder.  Scrap the top of the tongue with a special tongue scraper to remove any accumulated phlegm.  Gargle with warm sesame oil as follows:

  • Rinse the mouth with warm water
  • Take 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and hold it for 1-2 minutes
  • Spit it out
  • Take another tablespoon of oil and gargle for 1-2 minutes, stopping for breath when necessary
  • Spit it out
  • Massage the front of the gums with your finger
  • Rinse the mouth and throat with warm water

The Ayurdent mouthwash can be used after brushing the teeth and tongue scraping or for refreshing the breath during the day.

Sesame OilSesame oil

Sesame oil is renowned in Ayurvedic texts for its ability to help prevent dental problems. It is easily absorbed by the body and is known to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria, especially pathogenic bacteria. It is high in linoleic acid which has many health benefits. Gargling with sesame also enlivens the taste buds.

Sesame oil is 'cured' by heating it up to 100 degrees C and then cooling. This makes it more easily absorbed by the skin. Do not cure the oil more than once and use within 6 months of curing. Use a low heat. Do not leave the oil unattended. Do not refrigerate after curing.
