The majority of men in the UK experience prostate problems at some
point during their
life. After 40, testosterone levels start to decrease, causing the
prostate gland to enlarge. This can lead to obstruction in the flow of
urine and increased potential for infections. From age 70+, 90% will
have prostate enlargement. Irrespective of age, there’s plenty you can
do to maintain prostate health.
From the Ayurvedic perspective, prostate problems can result from a sedentary lifestyle, retention of urine or lack of proper nutrients.
Advice:

In 2006, over £14 billion was spent in the UK on the treatment and prevention of cardio-vascular disease (CHD). £3.3 billion was spent on coronary heart disease (CHD) and £3.2 billion on stroke. Add to this the cost of lost productivity due to illness, death and the informal care of people with the disease and the cost topped £30 billion a year.
About 19% of this was spent on medicines, 73% on in-patient care, 3% on out-patient care, 4% on primary care and 1% on accident and emergency care. (Ref: British Heart Foundation G30 statistics)

Transcendental Meditation works for heart disease - 9 Year Study
Research presented at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Heart Association showed that heart disease patients who practice Transcendental Meditation (TM) have nearly 50% lower rates of heart attack, stroke, and death.
The nine-year trial, funded by a $3.8 million grant by the National Institute of Health (NIH), followed 201 men and women with narrowing of arteries in their hearts who were randomly assigned to either practice Transcendental Meditation or to participate in a control group which received health education classes in traditional risk factors, including dietary adjustment and exercise. All participants continued standard medications and other usual medical care.
Robert Schneider, MD, FACC, the lead author on the study, said "Previous research on the Transcendental Meditation program has shown reductions in blood pressure, psychological stress, and other risk factors for heart disease. But this is the first controlled clinical trial to show that long term practice of this particular stress reduction program reduces the incidence of clinical cardiovascular events; that is heart attacks, strokes and mortality."
Ayurvedic advice for heart health

Another book worth reading is Perfect Blood Pressure Naturally by New Zealand medical practitioner Dr David Lovell-Smith, who has successfully treated hundreds of people with hypertension. “Every year millions of people world-wide are told to get their blood pressure down or risk the devastation of a stroke, or worse. Standard treatment is usually a prescription for the latest break-through drug and a caution about diet and exercise. But is there another way? This book shows you how to protect yourself by creating perfect blood pressure naturally through a holistic approach”.
