Issue 19/20 - September/October 2006

e-newsletter of Maharishi Ayurveda Products

September and October special course in the USA designed to improve individual health and the health and wellbeing of the whole nation.

The course, ‘Invincible America’, utilises the most advanced ancient Vedic technologies (Ayurveda comes from the same Vedic tradition) to create what is described as ‘coherence in collective consciousness’, whereby the thinking and behaviour of the whole population starts to become more natural and life-supporting as stress and negativity is neutralised in the environment.

If you’d like to know more about this remarkable phenomenon, we recommend a newly published book ‘Victory before War’, by pioneering researcher and physiologist Dr Robert Keith Wallace which describes the scientific basis of  coherence in collective consciousness and the mechanics of how it creates collective health improvements as well as other socially positive effects.

2. IMPROVING HEART HEALTH

With heart disease, or its major risk factors (high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, stress or diabetes), affecting a significant proportion of the population, including even children, the Maharishi Ayurveda prevention-based approach is worth taking seriously.

Many factors contribute to heart health, and Maharishi Ayurveda offers a holistic approach, which includes not only diet, but the mind and emotions as well. Here are seven key steps you can take to maintain heart health:

  1. Reduce mental stress
  2. Eat heart-health foods
  3. Cleanse impurities, and this includes improving your digestion
  4. Don’t skimp on sleep
  5. Exercise every day
  6. Take herbal formulas to support the heart
  7. Culture healthy emotions

3. PREVENTING NIGHT-TIME ANXIETY

Anxiety and poor sleep often occur together, and both tend to increase in the Vata season (late autumn and winter). So if you are tossing and turning trying to get to sleep, and suffering from worrying thoughts, try some of these Maharishi Ayurveda guidelines:

  1. Eat Vata balancing foods
  2. Eat your evening meal early;
  3. Avoid chocolate, caffeine and alcohol at night;
  4. Turn off the TV and computer after 8.30;
  5. Listen to soothing Gandharva Veda music;
  6. Take a short evening stroll;
  7. Use Peace At Night Therapeutic Aroma;
  8. Go to bed early, well before 10.00pm;
  9. Train yourself to wake up early, before 6.:00 am;
  10. Give yourself an abhyanga (oil massage) each morning;
  11. Give yourself a mini-massage, just the head and feet, before bed;
  12. Take a hot bath;
  13. Exercise every day to reduce stress, but not at night;
  14. Choose from the Blissful Sleep herbal formula range to settle your mind for sleep;

4. ENJOYING THE VATA SEASON (late Autumn/Winter)  – Try these simple tips

Come October, change is in the air. Leaves turn colour and fall. The air feels cool and windy. Inside your body, Vata dosha, the dosha of the season, tends to increase, often commanding Pitta and Kapha doshas to play second, and third, fiddle. This is how it is likely to be until January, when the season both outside and within you will change once again.

Autumn, being the onset of dry and cold days and nights, needs to be offset by a regular routine, diet, and temperatures that are warming, unctuous and nourishing. That's how all three doshas work:

5. ENJOYING THE VATA SEASON – part 2 – Useful Ayurveda products

A good way to learn about products useful for balancing the effects of the Vata season is to do the following search:

  1. Go to www.maharishi.co.uk
  2. Scroll down the page and click on the green box that says Product search
  3. On the search page type in Vata Products. This will take you to a page showing 35 products
  4. Click on any product for a brief description

6. TWO AUTUMN HEALTH HABITS

Maharishi Ayurveda includes simple measures you can adopt which can make a positive difference to your life. This Autumn, try giving up some unhealthy eating habits. A little effort looking for shops and restaurants offering healthy alternatives, and an easygoing attitude to your goals, and you’ll succeed.

  1. Try steaming or baking rather than frying
  2. Think about vegetarian diet and organic food. Recent research shows that both these measures produce health benefits.

7. DO I HAVE TOXINS? TRY THE TOXIN TEST

Maharishi Ayurveda offers two kinds of detoxification programmes: self-detox (including diet, herbal preparations and daily routine) and a detoxification programme supervised by an expert trained in Maharishi Ayurveda.

While everyone can benefit from a supervised programme such as Maharishi Panchakarma, not everyone should embark on a self-detox programme. Which programme you choose depends on the nature of your imbalances and the type of toxins lodged in your body.

A personal health evaluation with a Maharishi Ayurveda Practitioner or Health Consultant will identify the level of toxins present and where they are in your physiology and recommend programme you can follow.

A Question and Answer page with Maharishi Ayurveda detox information, and a simple questionnaire is available at Maharishi Ayurveda Detox Information

8. TRY A MAHARISHI AYURVEDA HEALTH EVALUATION - Autumn schedule

A personal health evaluation with a Maharishi Ayurveda Health Consultant takes an hour, during which you receive a health improvement programme, including a daily routine that takes account of your individual mind/body type, your health circumstances and the time you have available.

Your Maharishi Ayurveda health consultant can also give dietary advice - what foods to favour and to avoid - and herbal preparations and treatments that will correct any imbalances that may have built up in your physiology.

This is a great way to systematically improve your health, and Autumn/Winter consultation dates in London, Guildford, Cardiff, Cheshire, Lancashire, Suffolk and Stratford-upon-Avon are listed at Booking Your Ayurveda Health Consultations

10. FEATURED PRODUCT - the benefits of Ghee

Traditional ghee is clarified butter, butter from which water and milk solids have been removed by gentle heating. Ayurveda considers ghee to be one of the most health promoting of all foods.

It is said to strengthen the body, the eyes and the mental functions, improve memory and promote longevity. If taken with meals ghee strengthens the digestive fire.

Maharishi Ayurveda Bioland ghee (a higher certification than organic) is made strictly according to Ayurvedic guidelines. The butter comes from the Allgau, the traditional dairy region of Germany.  The butter is not homogenised and the ghee produced from it therefore has a natural crystalline, grainy structure that is easier to digest.

The milk from which the Bioland butter comes is collected from a region of many small farms (around the Wodensee). It has a characteristic flavour, and it is said that the smaller the farm the greater the flavour.

No industrial procedures – centrifuges, vacuums and adding gases – that allow ghee to be made quickly and cheaply, are used.
