By April, we are well into Kapha season, and because it’s Spring this is the time for spring cleaning.
Because Kapha has predominated in our bodies over the last 2-3 months, it now becomes more liquid and fluid in the body, and more easy to move around the body.
The toxins which gather in our tissues when we go out of balance are of a Kapha nature. When Kapha is more fluid in the body, it’s the easiest time of the year to eliminate these toxins from our tissues. Ayurveda Advice for April
1. Prepare yourself for allergy season (May-August)
This year remember to start Maharishi Ayurveda Allergard 45 days before your allergy season and preferably continue 45 days after.
According to Maharishi Ayurveda, if the body’s innate intelligence becomes clouded by the accumulation of toxins (ama) it can become sensitive to allergens.
Allergard provides a holistic, one-two solution. It helps eliminate toxins that inhibit the body’s natural defences and supports the body's natural resistance to allergens.
With Allergard you get a natural, long-term solution – enlivening the body’s inner intelligence.

Spices are a treasure trove for taste and health and for adding flavour to food. They have a yogavahi property, which means they support digestion and make food nutrients easily available to the body. Maharishi Ayurveda Churnas are precise blends of spices and seasonings that include all six Ayurvedic tastes needed in a balanced diet.
Vata, Pitta and Kapha Churnas
These dosha–balancing spice blends are the speciality of Maharishi Ayurveda, which has revived the tradition of combining culinary spices for health purposes. Each spice has a different action and when blended (samyoga) by Ayurvedic experts they have a holistic balancing effect. All our spices are of the finest quality and selected for freshness by Ayurvedic experts for best results.
Vata churna calms Vata dosha. It has a tangy balanced blend of cumin, ginger, fenugreek, turmeric, sugar, salt and asafoetida (Hing), and is also suitable for use on Vata-increasing food such as cabbage, broccoli, corn, grains and salads, or to taste.
Pitta churna cools and soothes Pitta dosha. A sweet, mild, exotic mix of coriander, fennel, cumin, sugar, cardamom, ginger, turmeric and cinnamon blended in exactly the right proportions, Pitta churna is recommended during summer months when hot weather can give rise to an imbalance of Pitta dosha. Use also with Pitta-increasing foods, such as tomato dishes, or according to taste.
Kapha Churna is warming and stimulates Kapha dosha. A hot, spicy combination of ginger, pepper, coriander, sugar, turmeric, salt and cinnamon, it is recommended with heavy food to help digestion.
There are also individual health-related spice blends, for example for cholesterol balance, for smooth cycle, for digestion, for immunity or weight balance.
Every spice has a different action, and when blended (samyoga) by Ayurvedic experts they have a holistic balancing effect. The secret is in the combination. And they taste great! Every kitchen should have a pack or two for regular use and special occasions. You’ll soon discover which blends suit you and which you like at certain times of year. Useful for self-cater holidays too.
