Maharishi
Gandharva Veda
- The Eternal Music of Nature |
About
Maharishi Gandharva Veda
By playing Maharishi
Gandharva Veda music you can join in the creation of a new atmosphere of peace, harmony,
and joy for yourself, your family, and the world.
Gandharva Veda music is the
eternal music of nature - the rhythms and melodies of nature expressed as music. If you
could hear the changing frequencies present at the first awakening of the dawn, in the
dynamics of midday, or in the deep silence of midnight, you would be hearing the
frequencies of Gandharva Veda music.
These
sublime melodies neutralize stress and disharmony in the environment, and gently restore
biological rhythms by attuning the physiology to the cycles of nature that underlie each
hour of the day and each season of the year. The knowledge of when to play each melody is based on three-hour periods
called Praharas which correspond to the changing frequencies of nature throughout the day.
Maharishi Gandharva Veda provides music to create balance in the environment throughout
the eight Praharas of the day - Sunrise, Morning, Midday, Afternoon, Sunset, Evening,
Midnight and Late Night.

"Gandharva
music is the eternal music of nature eternally the same, going on and on and on in swings
of bliss everywhere." - Maharishi
The eternal music of nature: to create balance in nature and peace
in the world. Available on Compact Disc and cassette, Maharishi Gandharva Veda is music in
tune with natural law, the classical music of the ancient Vedic Civilization that enjoyed
Heaven on Earth. It uses sound, melody, and rhythm to restore balance and harmony in mind,
body, behaviour, and environment. These beautiful melodies have been recorded for you by
the finest Gandharva Veda musicians in India. Each set of recordings contains melodies
appropriate to different times of the day.

 Various
scientific research studies have been conducted on the influence of
Maharishi Gandharva Veda music in the areas of consciousness, behaviour,
physiology, and the environment:
Integrating
effect on the brain functions of humans: the electrical potentials of the
activity of the brain before and during the listening of Gandharva Veda
music were analysed by a computer, for frequencies as Delta–, Theta–, Alpha–
and Beta–waves. While listening to Gandharva Veda music, a clear increase of
the electrical potentials within the Theta–wave–range (frequencies 4–8 Hz)
can be observed. A similar effect has been found during the practice of
Transcendental Meditation, where it correlates with a state of relaxation
and the experience of bliss. Source: Rasmussen, Orme–Johnson and Wallace, 1990.
Balancing
of the physiology, decreased tension, decreased irritability, less lethargy
and increased brain wave activity in the Alpha– Beta– and Theta ranges
verify the relaxing and integrating effects of this music, which have also
been found during the practice of Transcendental Meditation. Source: Dissertation of Theresa Olson–Sorflaten, 1995, USA.
The growth of isolated cells
(including tumour cells) was retarded when the sounds of Sama Veda were
played (Sama Veda is said to be the origin of Gandharva Veda music). Source: Alternative Therapies in Clinical Practice, 1996, Vol. 3(4).
The growth of five types of
cancer cells (lung, intestine, brain, breast and skin) was retarded when
exposed to Sama Veda (the origin of Gandharva Veda music). Source: Sharma H.M., Kauffman E.M., Dudek A., Stephens R.E. Effect of
different sounds on growth of human cancer lines in vitro. Journal of
Research and Education in Indian Medicine.
Tests
with plants: the plant which was closest to the source of sound virtually
embraced the loudspeaker, when Gandharva Veda music was played. When
Hard–Rock music was used, the plants turned away from the source of the
sound. Source: “The secret life of plants”, by Bird & Tompkins.
- Creating World Peace
-
Maharishi's Festivals
of Music for World Harmony
In 1986, Maharishi Mahesh
Yogi inaugurated his Program to Create World Peace, introducing the theme of
creating balance in Nature and peace in the world through the performance of
Gandharva Veda music. Since then many of India’s most renowned musicians
have joined in this world-wide revival of the eternal music of nature.
Today, Gandharva Veda musicians continue to perform in concerts around the
year, around the world. |
